Catching up with Dana

Dana and her students on Halloween

Who are you?

Dana Large, 26 years old.

Short word on your time in Belgium?

I was in Belgium from 2012 to 2013 and I lived in the Women’s Household in Leuven with Leah Moran and Claire Vanderstuyft. My main services included updating the Pharos website, Facebook page and the Pharos newsletter, among other things.

What is the best memory of your time in Belgium?

I don’t have one best memory, but many small great ones. I very much enjoyed getting to know the families in the community and there are a couple in particular which will always hold a special place in my heart. Being so far from home wasn’t easy but people like Claire (my roommate for the year), her family, Joni Rogge (my spiritual director/mentor for the year) and her family as well, made it so much easier and my year wouldn’t have been as memorable or impactful if they weren’t in it.

A little word on your life right now?

Life has taken me for a bit of a ride since my year in Belgium. I finished college, traveled around a bit and spent a year working and living in Minnesota, but I am currently living in Matawan, New Jersey and I am teaching Second Grade at Saint Joseph the Carpenter School in Roselle, New Jersey.

Do you have a message for the people of Jerusalem?

I would like to thank all of you for welcoming me into your lives during my GAP year. It wasn’t an easy year being away from home, family and friends, but you all definitely made it easier! Thank you :)

What can we pray for?
